Originally certified in 1969 by LA County ( pre-curser to NAUI), I dived a lot in my late teens and early twenties, taking it up again in my mid thirties with BS-AC. Since then I have been involved in several BSAC clubs and have held every committee position. My main interests in diving are photography, instruction, and playing with boats and equipment

Ryan Brothers

BSAC Dive Leader, Diver Coxswain

Ryan was certified in the winter of 1995 with ACUC in Nova Scotia, Canada. For his first open water dive he had to clean several inches of snow off his car before heading out to the dive site. Using only a rented 7mm wetsuit and his own natural insulation he braved the elements where the surface water temperature was -1° C, but after reaching depth it warmed up to a balmy +2° C. Ryan would just like to categorically state that he prefers diving in warm waters.

I started diving some 10 years ago in the dark cold waters of the Netherlands and Scotland where a dry suit, twin sets and a powerful torch are seen as "standard" equipment.

I kept the interest in dive gear technology and moved up to a rebreather which allows me to get close to underwater life without disturbing it. I enjoy wrecks, but only from the outside, steep wall dives and drifting along pristine reefs in mild currents. I will try to finish my Advanced diver course soon and plan to attend the advanced instructor course later this year.
