Species Identification Charts
As part of the environmental project, enthusiastic divers with little or no knowledge of marine biology have to identify fish. Steve developed a laminated card with fish pictures which can be issued to the divers. All the diver does is count the fish and write the number by the picture. Easy!
This idea has recently been extended to 'small non-mobiles', that is fixed life <30 cm in size, and 'large non-mobiles' >30 cm. Recording the distribution and diversity of these species will be key to our understanding the health of the platforms and the best locations to encourage marine growth.
