Second-half 2009 PANAS trophy winners
We are proud to announce the winners of the PANAS
trophies for the second half of 2009 (July to Decembers).
The trophies are given out to the runners who during the
last six months performed best in terms of fastest and
most consistent runs.
Friday 15th of January, Old Camp Course
Race Summary
The first run in 2010 took place on the Camp
Course track. This is route is known to be fast as
we run through the camp all on paved roads and
more or less straight without major bends. During
this time of the year we still did not expect super
fast times since most of the runners took a break
over Xmas and also because the weather happens
to be wet and stormy at times.
The days before the race were just like that - rain,
rain, and even more rain. On race day itself I was
even discussing with Robert if we should move the
race to another day. But we quickly decided to go
ahead, only modifying the 10k route to avoid
running on the slippery part of the track. They ran
the 5k distance twice.
And the many runners that, to my surprise turned up
were rewarded for coming out on this grey day. At
16:00 hrs it stopped raining and it was nice and
cool outside - perfect conditions. And that than also
resulted in several people being able to run new
PBs - congratulations to everybody!
So, I hope that we'll similar turn-outs for all other
runs during the year - hoping it was not the 2010
new-year resolution that made people run.
Cheers,
Bernhard
Friday 5th of February, Norwegian Would
Race Summary
The second race in 2010 took place on Friday, 5th of
February. Due to the high tide in the evenings we again
decided to run a course in the camp. This time we went for
the Norwegian Would course starting from F8/23.
Many people turned up for the race - I was delighted to see
that we had four "first racers" as well!
The course is easy and flat and normally could be very fast.
But on this Friday the runners already felt upfront that it
wouldn't probably turn out that way. It was hot and sticky in
the camp, no wind, no sea breeze... only the many, many
mosquitos in F8 helped the runners get going quickly!
Some people managed to fight the heat better than others
and everybody was rewarded with post race drinks and
snacks in the garden of F8/23.
Many thanks to Cristina for making the effort to organize
this. And, of course, thanks to Jeannette and Cristina who
did the time keeping and number distribution!
Friday 5th of March, PGTs HARD and SOFT run
Race Summary
We had the pleasure to run a new Panas track for
the March monthly run that was invented by Paul:
"PGTs Hard and Soft". The track is going from
the G10 area into the jungle, over some dykes
and sandy trails back to G10. Therefore, its not
exactly a fast track which was proven by the
Panas crowd that showed up on that hot, sticky
night. Still, runners very much enjoyed
experiencing a new course over difficult and
unknown terrain and plans are to have the PGTs
Hard and Soft run as a regular Panas course in
the future.
Many thanks to Jeannette and Marian for doing
the time keeping and organizing the start/finish of
the run.
Friday 2nd of April, Beach Splash run
Race Summary
It had been quite a while that we didn't manage a
run on the beach. But on 2nd of April Panas was
back on the beach with the Beach Splash run. A
total of 18 runners joint the 4th time trial in 2010
with 8 runners doing the 10k loop and the
remaining 10 the 5k run.
Even though this run is not considered to be
especially fast, some runners still managed to
perform extremely well and do PBs. Well done to
everybody.
Many thanks to Jeannette and Cristina for doing
the time keeping and organizing the start/finish of
the run and also to Paul for laying the course.
Friday 7th of May, Old Camp Course
The May run was our first combined PANAS monthly and kids
run. Many thanks to all the people that helped organizing the
event, especially Robert et al. for hosting the run and Kuan for
coordinating the kids run. And, of course, thanks to Cristina
and Jeannette for time keeping and Paul and Axel for laying
and collecting the track signs.
Friday 28th of May, Billion Barrell Run
The June monthly was held on 28th of May at the Billion
Barrell Monument. As many of you know, this is not an easy
run as runners have to run a fair bit over the beach into the
sun and wind, over sandy tracks, small foot passages and
two narrow bridges. The monthly Panas run was again
combined with a kids run that took place on the cycle path
next to the road.
On top of the difficult track, this time round we had to fight
with lots of sand flies bothering runners, time keepers, and
helpers. 20 runners participated in the run, 8 on the 10k
loop and 12 on the 5k with three runners doing their first
race with Panas. Congratulations to all runners, also to
Rotimi and Koos who unfortunately got lost on the track
and, therefore, didn't get a proper race time. Many thanks
also to Cristina for doing the time keeping, to Kuan and
Mike Quirk for organizing the kids run, and Robert and
Mike for collecting the signs after the event while all other
runners were enjoying a well-deserved drink.
