THE DUKE OF EDINBURGH PRIZE

2nd November 2005:  Buckingham Palace

It was officially announced on 8th September 2005, that PSAC had won the prestigious BSAC Duke of Edinburgh’s Prize for the Platform Environmental Project.  The project "Life beneath the Platforms" was selected personally by Prince Philip as the winning entry for the Prize. This is awarded annually to the BSAC club that is judged to have made the biggest contribution to scientific research.

Prof. Steve Oakley, Daz Harrison, Doug Bell, John Elder and Steve Holyoak  went to Buckingham Palace on Nov 2nd to receive the prize from Prince Philip!

However, winning an award is one thing; now we owe it to the two and a half years of effort by so many members, not to let our researches go unheeded.

BSP MD's Homepage - 2nd December 2005

We had the privilege of hosting Her Royal Highness, Paduka Seri Pengiran Anak Puteri Hajah Majeedah Nuurul Bulqiah, as guest of honour to open the BSP Brunei Environmental Conference 2005, aptly titled: Our Environment, Our Responsibility. More than 150 stakeholders participated in this important event, which was co-ordinated by our HSE team, supported by CEA and actively participated by staff from various departments in BSP, BLNG and BSM.

The event was an opportunity to promote awareness, dialogue and action on key environmental topics, including international and national legislation, incorporating the environment into our business, biodiversity and the natural environment in Brunei. As you know, protecting the environment has for a long time been a key priority for BSP. The bedrock of our environmental programme is the internationally recognised environmental management system, ISO14001, for which we have now achieved company-wide certification. This helps ensure that environmental best practices are at the heart of all our activities.

The award-winning work by the Panaga Sub Aqua Club on the “Life Beneath the Platforms” marine biodiversity study, was also shared with delegates at the conference. (Editor's emphasis - Webmaster)

I would like to thank the many BSP staff who take action on a daily basis to help protect the environment. We are making good progress, but we must strive to continually improve our performance in this area, which, is not only vital for our business, but also for the future of Brunei.
