PANAS is a relaxed, informal section of men and women, and occasionally children, of all abilities who enjoy a jog in the evenings. The section meets at the Beach Shelter (at the back of the Panaga Club) on Mondays and Fridays for a fairly prompt 5.30 pm start. The route is decided by the vocal majority, and we all set off as a slow moving group to warm up. How far you run is up to you. Normally the group will keep together for the first two kilometres or so, after which those wishing to run faster and longer will separate from the rest. Please remember that this is a social activity and it's always more fun to run with somebody of a similar pace. New joggers are welcomed, and we attract people from the Belait area, particularly from BSP, the Garrison, local schools and contracting companies.
Don't be afraid to give us a try. There will always be somebody of your ability. Everybody is welcome. For many people, the choice is running with a group, or not running. It's free after all.
PANAS organises a competitive monthly run of five km, with the option of 10 km for the super-fit. All training runs are free, the only charge being BND 3/- for the once monthly races of 5 km and 10 km. The year is divided into two championships (Jan-Jun and Jul-Dec) each comprising six races. At the end of each six-month Championship there are prizes for the top three male and three female fastest runners. There are also handicap categories, where points are awarded for improvement against a target time.
See you at the Beach Shelter: Monday and Friday for 5.30pm.
Once or twice a year, the committee hosts the Panaga Triathlon. The 23rd and 24th Panaga Triathlons were held in April and November 2005. The main Triathlon comprises a 500m swim, 28km bike leg and a 5km run. This is also open to teams.
